Outdoors on Macworth Island near Portland, Maine

You can get to Macworth Island by driving over a short bridge. You have to park in a small parking lot as there is a security guard at the entrance to the island patrolling the visitors. There is one path around the perimeter of the island with lookouts and paths down to the ocean. We walked along the rocky shore from one set of steps down around to this embankment.

I wanted to take this lobster trap home. I am crazy about anything related to the lobstering business. But it was too big for me to drag alone. Sam would not help me! I wish I had found a lobster buoy. I’ve been dying to find a “real” one washed up on a beach in Maine.

This post entry is a new venture. I am inserting these photos from Windows Live Writer that popped up when I was working with the photos on Windows Live Photo Gallery. So please excuse me if the formatting is off. If it works well it will be a great way to upload photos to my blog posts.

And probably picking up a crab or seaweed to play with. Ketli, our four month old chocolate Lab, was exploring with her mouth and her nose. There was plethora of new tastes and smells for her explore. A country dog’s paradise.

View of Munjoy Hill in Portland. My daughter lives there and we wanted to take a photo for her to frame. But the lighting was not right. We will have to go back and try again.

I was not sure I felt right about having Ketli in her crate in the car for four hours roundtrip between Hollis, NH and Portland, ME. But she had so much fun walking the city sidewalks, sitting on a blanket in the Eastern Promenade park near Jeanette’s apartment watching seagulls and boats, playing with dogs at the East End Beach and hiking and exploring on Macworth Island that I knew she would sleep the whole way home.

Follow the links above to really interesting information about Macworth Island and the Munjoy Hill district of Portland. Then take a visit there. You can’t help but fall in love with that part of Maine. (or any part for that matter.)

  1. Yes. I love Portland. I wish we had a cottage up there

  2. Sam permalink

Portland residents have it good with so many islands nearby. Macworth is one of the least developed and most enjoyable for a quiet stroll.
